What We're Reading!

Well, we're sick again!  All four of us this time.  With less than a week until our big trip to Ohio, we are shaking off what is left of our most recent cold.  I'm hoping that we are all in the clear before we leave on Tuesday.  With Austin's asthma, I really don't want to leave him behind with a flare up ready and able to happen at any moment.

While we are all under the weather, so was the rest of Northern California!  We have been having some very unusual, almost Midwestern weather.  Complete with thunder and lightning storms, and a supposed tornado-watch, just over the hills from us.  Of course, all this makes for great reading weather!

This week we are reading Two is for Twins.  This was a birthday gift to the twins by Makayla's Physical and Vision Therapists.  Although the gift was very thoughtful, personally, I'm not a big fan of this book.  Something about the drawings creep me out a little and the words to the book doesn't flow off my tongue easily...but, what I think about it does not mater, because the kiddos are crazy about this book.  I cannot even tell you how many times Makayla and Austin have demanded that we read it to them.  It's a bit longer than a lot of other books we have read, which I think is part of why they like it so much.  And although I do not care for the drawings, Makayla loves to point out all the details, and goes on and on (in Twineese, not English) about all the things she's finding.

  1. My 6-year-old has asthma too! I know how hard the spring can be, especially with allergies making everything worse. I found you through the Mom Bloggers Club!

  2. Funny, my Calley (5) gets to choose a book each night for a bedtime story... which is Daddy's job, however when I pinch hit Calley will try to pick a thick book... although I cringe, only because after she goes to bed I still have writing to do for at least a couple of hours... so that's when the five page rule applies  :)  we read five pages.  With Austin and Makayla's books their book pages may have one ore two sentences tops... well my dear Calley's books.. are more complex than that.  LOL!!  We're talking at least a couple of paragraphs... I'll must add that lots of times I may read six or seven pages...lol

  5. I wonder if they understand the book in a twinnish way? :) My daughter loves to read books on China, no matter what the story!

  7. LOL! I was getting ready to say don't let them fool you but you said it, "which I think is part of why they like it so much." My son is 7 now. He asked me could he draw while I read him a book. I said, "No you wouldn't be paying attention." He said, "Awww but I just like hearing your voice." That's sweet huh. That's probably the case with the twins and the long book. It's all about the bonding.

  8. Gosh, isn't that just the way? My kids had some favorite books that I just hated to read. And you are right that the kiddos love the long ones, which mean extra time to stay up at bedtime and naptime--and extra time in Mommy's lap! Pint-size brilliance!

  9. We normally read during playtime, so it's not eating into our bedtime routine....YET! ;)

  10. That's so true. It's just an excuse to sit on my lap. However, Makayla seems to do most of the "reading"

  11. We spend a lot of time with other twins, so I was wondering the other day if they even realize that everyone isn't a twin!

  13. Since we don't normally read before bed, this is done during our playtime, and we have all the time in the world! :)

  14. We've had some crazy weather too recently! I feel like most the books that dislike are the ones Zion wants to have read over and over and over again!
